Finned tubes are carbon steel coated with aluminium elongated flat tubes with brazed aluminium fins. These tubes are part of a heat exchanger network. Because the fins make more contact with the liquid outside, they have an advantage over standard tubes. As a result, heat transfer from the liquid inside the tube to the liquid outside is accelerated. Heat exchange would be much slower in a normal tube.

Finned tubes are particularly beneficial in air heat exchangers. Heat is transferred between a liquid and a gas in an air heat exchanger. A finned tube can be extremely useful because the heat coefficient of the airside is lower. A finned tube's increased surface area allows for faster heat transfer between the fins.
